The Russian security market, as a segment of national economy, reflects the general economic trends in the country. Persistent economic growth in Russia over the past few years has been leading to rapid development of businesses, especially retail trade, banking services, oil and gas industry, real estate and construction, etc. Quite naturally, this growth means greater concern over security of the business itself, its clients and customers. Recent developments in the political situation and the struggle against terrorism waged by the government and the public are another basic factor of the security market development.
The overall volume of the security market in Russia in 2006 was estimated at roughly US $ 6 billion. This figure includes some $ 5 billion spent on guarding services and physical protection, and the technical security market turnover of approximately $ 1 billion.
The Russian market of technical means of security is in the process of permanent development. Each year the market turnover increases by 20¡25 percent, depending on the segment. With CCTV, fire safety systems, access control and management being principal and fastest growing segments of the Russian security market, experts forecast the turnover of the security means market to reach some $1.5 billion by 2008. All this shows that Russian security industry occupies a notable place on the global market, making its influence on the world trends, like integration of security into digital information structures, growth of counterterrorism segments, and deepening market consolidation, rather strong.
The Russian security market offers great opportunities to investors and companies of the industry. And being a major consumer, Russian security industry can in its turn offer to the world the latest achievements in the field of security based on up-to-date technologies. A clear sign of growing incorporation of the Russian security industry into the world market is the presence of Russian R&D and manufacturing companies at the largest security industry fairs and exhibitions all over the world. The innovation potential of the Russian security industry is tremendous.
Another sign of growing maturity of the Russian security market is the increasing attendance and participation in industry exhibitions by leading international players in the market. A vivid example is the success of the annual International Forum and exhibition ¡°Security and Safety Technologies¡± (SST) held in Moscow. The Forum and exhibition are organized and managed by Reed Exhibitions, a world renowned leader in the exhibition business, and supported by the Russian Parliament, Ministry of Interior, Federal Security Service, other government structures and ministries. Acting as a permanent co-organizer of the event is the Russian Association of Security Industry (RASI) ¨C a professional organization uniting leaders of the country¡¯s security industry. In 2007, the SST Forum and exhibition hosted at its 23,000 sq.m. hall space about 500 companies from Russia and over 20 foreign countries, and attracted more than 24,000 visitors. The Forum business program includes over 40 conferences and seminars on practically all aspects of security where recognized experts from government and private security structures from all over the world share their opinions on acute problems of public, business and industrial security.
In 2008 Security & Safety Technologies Int¡¯l Forum is scheduled for 5-8 February in the exhibition center ¡°Crocus Expo¡±.
